FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What are Build n Board obstacles made of?
Our obstacles are hand-crafted from concrete and cement. The material gives each piece an authentic street-spot feel and weight. Some pieces incorporate paint or surface detail (like the Checker Block), and a select few — such as the Qp Ashtray/Planter — are noted as especially fragile due to their thin geometry. Handle every piece with care.
Are concrete obstacles durable enough for everyday fingerboarding?
Concrete obstacles hold up well to regular fingerboarding use. That said, concrete is a natural material and can chip or crack if dropped onto hard surfaces or stored carelessly. To get the most life out of your setup, keep obstacles on a flat, stable surface during sessions and avoid knocking them off the table.
My obstacle is producing concrete dust during sessions. Is that normal?
A small amount of dust or fine grit is common with raw concrete, especially on newer pieces as the surface breaks in. You can lightly wipe the surface with a barely damp cloth and let it dry fully before use. Avoid soaking the piece in water.
How do I care for and clean my obstacle?
Keep it simple — wipe down with a dry or very slightly damp cloth. Do not submerge obstacles in water or leave them in damp environments, as prolonged moisture can weaken the concrete over time. Store indoors on a dry, flat surface. Avoid dropping obstacles, as chips and cracks are not covered under any warranty.
Can I seal my obstacle to reduce dust or protect the surface?
Sealing is possible, but Build n Board does not currently apply or sell a specific sealer. If you choose to seal on your own, use a clear, matte concrete or masonry sealer and test on the underside first. Note that sealing may slightly change the surface texture and grind feel.
Will chipping affect how my obstacles skate?
Minor surface chips are mostly cosmetic and generally don't affect grindability on ledges and benches. Sharp edge chips on rails or corners can be lightly sanded with fine-grit sandpaper to smooth them out. Deep structural cracks are more serious — contact us if you receive a damaged item.
Where do you ship, and how long does it take?
We ship domestically across the US and internationally to a wide range of countries including Canada, Australia, the UK, Germany, Japan, and many more. Domestic orders use Economy shipping. International orders ship via USPS or DHL Express. Delivery times vary by destination and carrier — you'll receive a tracking number as soon as your order ships.
How much does shipping cost?
Shipping costs are calculated at checkout based on your location and the weight of your order. Because our obstacles are made of concrete, they can be heavier than they look — we do our best to pack them efficiently to keep shipping costs reasonable.
My order arrived damaged. What do I do?
We pack every order carefully given the fragile nature of concrete, but if something arrives broken, please reach out to us right away via our Contact page. Include your order number and a photo of the damage, and we'll work with you to make it right.
What is your return policy?
Because our obstacles are handmade to order and made of fragile concrete, we handle returns on a case-by-case basis. If you have a concern about your order, contact us through the Contact page and we'll find a fair solution.
My fingerboard isn't included — what sizes work with your obstacles?
Fingerboards are not included with any obstacle. Our pieces are scaled for standard fingerboard setups. For reference, the BnB 3-Stair measures 4" wide × 7" long × 1.75" high, and the Parkside Bench is approximately 8" long — sizing consistent with most fingerboard decks on the market.
